There is a famous story around about how an expert
once asked why airliners wanted to build supersonic aircraft.
"To get people where they want to go faster," came the reply.
"Why?" "So they'd have more free time."
"And what would they do with this extra time." "I
don't know. Watch television." "Then why
not save money and just install televisions on subsonic jets?"
That's one of those awkward lines of reasoning that progress doesn't
like to hear. After all, you can't just snap back, "Because
nuclear supersonic jetliners like
Fireflash are COOL!"
Sounds a bit childish, really. |
