In the '20s, television was seen as the hot new radio application.
Imagine being able send pictures through the air without folding them
into little paper aeroplanes. Only three
things kept television from being an instant success. 1) Only a
few stations were making experimental broadcasts. 2) Television sets
cost as much as a motor car. 3) Pictures were the size of
postage stamps and looked like blurry ghosts.
To radio enthusiasts, reasons 1 & 3 were part of
the fun, and as for 2, if God wanted us to buy televisions, he
wouldn't have given us soldering irons. |
