The primary
transport link between Earth and the Moon, the SHADO Lunar Module
shows how we really dropped the ball in the '70s when it came to the
space programme. This midget wonder took off from a conventional
runway using a specially built carrier aircraft, separated from the
mother craft, and flew to the Moon without so much as a top up of the
fuel tanks. Given that this thing also carried enough cargo to
maintain a manned military base on the lunar surface, one wonders what
the deuce they were using for propellant. |
