You've got to be impressed by Buckminster Fuller.
Here was a man who could take a basic idea like his geodesic dome and
wring every last drop out of it. He was also a great enough
genius not to allow anything as petty as reality to get in his way.
Take his Harlem River Project. Anybody can make a plan for
brogadignagian towers linked by ridiculous sky bridges, but it takes a
man of true inspiration to come up with a design that totally ignores
the entire community they glower over.
You wouldn't think you could top that, but Fuller always had one more
grand design up his sleeve, such as having the
centre of Manhattan completely encased in a giant buckydome.
Why? I have no idea.
