The
spacesuits of Moonbase 3 are particularly impressive. Once you
get past noticing that the spacemen are all wearing Doc Martens, you
start to realise that the costumers did their homework and came up
with what is essentially a streamlined version of the Apollo EVA suit
used by Neil Armstrong et al. They have logically
designed chest control panels, colour-coded metal gauntlet rings,
low-oxygen warning lights and buddy-breathing connections. And the
writers even figured out that tiny life-support packs can't hold more
than a few minutes of air-- which is a detail that generally gets
overlooked
True, the helmets have visors to
protect the astronauts from the Lunar sun, but the creators pointed
out that you had to allow for some dramatic licence if you weren't
going to have scenes involving talking gold-plated fishbowls.
Even Olivier would have a hard time with that. |
