Wind power has had its place in Future Past ever since H. G. Wells described a future London run by windmills in When the Sleeper Wakes.  Since then it has shown up occasionally, but where the forecasts of yesterday differ from the wind-farm happy politicians of today is that the former realised that one big wind vane is much more impressive than a bunch of little ones.
