An object lesson in
what would have happened if the Soviet Union had got 'round to
building robots.
"Iron"
John from the Soviet film
Planeta Bur
(1962) (aka Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet or Voyage to
the Planet of Prehistoric Women) is a walking example of the
Politburo's engineering philosophy: If you can build it, build
it as big as possible. Designing a toaster? Borrow heavily
from the battle tank division. Have a robot on the drawing
board? Give it a look as if it was made out of old
locomotive parts and had to be bashed into shape with a steam hammer,
then make the feet along the lines of a clawed stamping press.
Come on; when was the
last time you saw a robot with chubby thighs? |
