One day a great dust storm blew across the wastelands for weeks and
when it past the sands had shifted beyond recognition.
Half of the old city ruins were now buried under hundreds of feet of
sand while new treasures had been recovered in other areas. In a
bookcase laid open by the storm the robot found stacks of old science
fiction magazines. He studied them carefully, reading only a
sentence a day so that he could stretch out pleasure for a century or
two. But pulp is pulp and the open air and naked light of the
Sun took its toll and by the time the robot had finished reading them
the magazines had become the dust that had once covered them. |
