wait a sec! This one's real! Well, bits of it, anyway.
These
"Machine Man" features are about as close to grappling with cyborgs as
most predictions got in the 1960s. It wasn't uncommon to find
magazine articles and museum exhibits that would lump together
prosthetics, heart/lung machines, other medical appliances and imply
that once you tack on enough replacement parts onto the human body
you've got a new, more powerful organism. Though I suspect that
the silicone testicles wouldn't be much of an advance on the original
equipment. Personally, I
think if you tinker with the human body too much you get something like the motor car that I "drove," for want of
a better word, at university. That frightening monstrosity was
such a collection of miss-matched spares, duct tape, bailing wire, and
prayer that I was getting two miles to the gallon. I'm talking
oil, mind.
