How
will man live on Mars? According to the March 1953 issue
of Popular Science, it would be rather charming inflatable
bubbles. Devised by Alfred William Moffett of MIT, the complex
is powered by inflatable rubber solar panels providing enough
electricity to support 33 men for a 430 day stay.
How all that plastic is going to
hold up against the hard UV rays of the Mars is questionable, but,
gosh, it is decorative. It's the Googie school of space
engineering.
