Gyro-Electric Destroyers, Battleship Tanks, Walking Machines; what is
an infantryman to do against this sort of thing. Well, look no
further than the Automatic Soldier; the cylinder of firepower, the
cigar tube of destruction, the giant dildo of death.
I love the
"exploded" view of the tube in the front. Neat way to show the
mechanism. I also love the way in which the absurdities of the
machine are not allowed to get in the way of the science fiction
appeal of the idea. The electric no-touch wires are a nice
feature, but these things can't be armoured or the soldiers could
never wrestle them into position. And how do they set them up?
What happens to them in an artillery barrage besides getting blown to
smithereens? Now get a load of the mechanism. I think the
thing is just supposed to go back and forth and up and down without
being aimed. Okay, but a Bren gun on a slide can do the same
thing for a fraction of the cost.
What am I saying? I use 1500 quid worth of computer to play
solitaire. |
